What we do

We build free statutory calculators and write plain-English guides about UK employment law: statutory redundancy pay, notice periods, sick pay, annual leave, maternity and paternity pay, and National Minimum Wage compliance. These are the figures Parliament sets, and we put them in one place, clearly explained, without jargon, without paywalls, and without requiring you to create an account.

We know that the people who need these answers most often need them urgently: after receiving a redundancy notice, after an unexpected dismissal, or in the middle of a pay dispute. We designed PlainRight to give you a useful answer at 11pm on a Tuesday, when the ACAS helpline is closed.

Our mission

PlainRight's mission is to make employment-rights information genuinely easy to access, presented in plain language, without barriers, so that PlainRight serves as a reliable first step for anyone who needs to understand their position or their obligations before seeking further guidance.

Our editorial approach

Every statutory figure on PlainRight is sourced from primary legislation or official GOV.UK guidance and includes its effective date. We cross-check calculator outputs against GOV.UK and ACAS calculators before publishing. We update the site within 24 hours of any statutory rate change.

PlainRight calculates statutory minimum entitlements. Your actual entitlement under your employment contract may be more generous, and we flag this on each calculator page.

We are not lawyers and this is not legal advice. We give you the statutory numbers and explain the rules in plain English. For advice specific to your situation, we recommend ACAS (free, for anyone) or a qualified employment solicitor.

How we keep the lights on

PlainRight is free to use. We keep it running through:

  • Display advertising: We serve ads via Google AdSense. Advertising personalisation only runs if you have given consent via our cookie banner.
  • Affiliate referrals:Some pages will contain links to third-party products and services relevant to PlainRight's audience (such as business insurance). Affiliate links are gated and will only appear once a partner is enabled. At the time of writing, no affiliate links are live. When they do appear, each one will be clearly labelled, and they will never influence our statutory content or calculator results. We do not write sponsored content; our calculators apply the law, not commercial relationships.

We believe in being transparent about how the site is funded. The statutory content and calculators are editorially independent.

Accuracy and corrections

If you spot an error (a wrong figure, an outdated rate, a broken calculator), please let us know at contactplainright@gmail.com. We treat corrections as urgent. Statutory figures are too important to leave wrong.
